Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long are the sessions?

Appointment times are 50 minutes, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours.

I recommend individual sessions to be 1.5 hours and couple's sessions to be 2 hours.

The time in session goes very quickly.  Over the years in my experience, individuals do not start the session with the most challenging part of their issue.  The first 10 or 15 minutes are spent getting comfortable and focused before discussing the issues.  By then, there are only 35 minutes left and the client can walk away from the session feeling less productive.

  • How often do I have to go to therapy?

    • Depending on the challenges you face it can take weeks, months, and in some cases a year or more.
    • Initially, I like to see clients once a week for the first month to develop a solid rapport and gather as much information as possible in order to create a plan that is tailored and realistic for them. Once progress begins, sessions gradually taper.
    • There are individuals who choose to meet once a month after resolving the initial issue that brought them to counseling in order to maintain mental health.
  • What is your specialty?

    • Relationships of various design dynamics on conflict resolution, communication, and trust, to name a few topics.
    • Sex, whether improving satisfaction, overcoming challenges, or expanding knowledge of kink.
    • Individuals dealing with low self-esteem, lack of confidence, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
    • Trauma therapy helps individuals process memories and develop coping skills needed to move forward.
  • Is my information private?

YES! Ethically and legally I must adhere to HIPPA regulations and keep your information confidential. Also, self-pay therapy increases your privacy from insurance companies.

  • Do I have to talk about my childhood?

No.  You can talk about what you believe is important. With that said, I would encourage you to consider exploring some of the things you learned in your childhood that continue to repeat themselves into adulthood and hold you back.

  • Who should I bring with me to therapy?

Only the people you deem relevant to meeting your goals. I may have a suggestion, but ultimately it is your session.

  • How much does it cost?

I do not accept insurance, single-case agreements, or EAP.

I accept cash, Zelle, credit cards, and HSA cards.

    50-minute sessions:

    Individual                        $130

    Couples                          $150

    90-minute sessions:

    Individual                       $190

    Couples                         $230

    2-hour sessions:

    Individual (EMDR)*        $240

    Couples                        $280

    *EMDR requires a 2-hour session

I recommend individual sessions to be 1.5 hours and couple's sessions to be 2 hours.

  • Do you work Saturdays, evenings, or by video?

I offer two Saturdays a month and three late evenings a week. The last appointment is at 7 pm.

    They typically fill up first.

I offer telehealth (video) to help individuals who would rather have their appointment during the day but can't leave work or live hours away. I prefer in-person, but will do telehealth over no therapy at all.

  • What happens next?

    There are two options.

    1. Click the Book a Consultation or Contact Me tab and fill out your information and I will reach out to you.

    2. Call me directly at (214) 994-7021 or email me directly at april.lmft@gmail.com.

With either choice, I recommend we schedule a 15-minute phone conversation to discuss any questions you may have and make sure I am a good fit for what you are seeking.

Once the appointment is scheduled, an email is sent with a link to have forms filled out and a good-faith estimate sent.
